Howard E. Wilson 1912-2005
• Howard was the only son of John E. and Bessie (Kangas) Wilson. He was born on Ed & Bessie's farm in Parlier, California on a 106-degree day in June 1912. The Baby Years - Photos in the upper left were taken in Astoria; the bottom two rows were taken by Howard's Uncle Fred Wilson, the noted Astoria Photographer.
• Howard attended Aloha Huber Grade School in Aloha, Oregon until 1925. He then went on to Beaverton High School and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1929.
• Howard was Confirmed in the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Astoria, Oregon by Pastor Arvo Korhonen in the summer of 1929 after his high school graduation. While he was in Astoria this summer he stayed with his grandmother, Johanna Wilson.
• Howard graduated from Oregon State Agricultural College in June 1933 with a degree in Chemical Engineering; he was in the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
• 1936-37 - Howard worked as a chemist for the Pillsbury Flour Mills in Astoria, OR. He lived in Astoria but did not favor Astoria's cold and dark weather during the winter. Read Howard's story of his time in Astoria.

• 1939 - In 1939 he married Ellen Crandle Benedict. Howard managed a bulb farm for Vaughan’s Bulb Company that was based in Chicago, Illinois; the bulb farm was in Parkrose, Oregon. Note on their Christmas photo: "December 1939, Sandy Blvd. Cottage”.
• 1939-1940, in the winter of 1939-40 the bulb company financed a term for Howard to study horticulture at Oregon State.
• In 1964 Howard phased out the poultry business, still keeping the Angus beef cattle until the mid-seventies.
