• Matts Mattsson Runtujärvi and his wife Sofia Korp lived near Kokkola (Gamlakarleby) in Kaarlela Korpilahti village (Finnish equivalent) or Karleby, Korplax (Swedish equivalent). Matts was the son of: Matts Mickelsson Runtujärvi, born 23 Feb 1794 in Karleby, Finland; died 8 Dec 1871. He married Maja Mattsdotter Björk 3 Jan 1818 in Karleby, Finland; Maja was born 2 Jan 1797 in Karleby, Finland; died 8 Feb 1871 in Karleby, Finland.
• Matts Mattsson Runtujärvi, born 28-08-1818 in Korplax, d. 09-04-1868 in nerve fever, occupation farmer at Runtujärvi. Married 04-06-1838 in Karleby, Sofia Eriksdr Ventus Korp, born 24-03-1820 in Karleby (daughter of Erik Mattsson Korp-Ventus and Magdalena Persdr Härmälä), Sofia died 29-07-1883 in Karleby.
• Here are the children of Matts Mattsson Runtujärvi and Sofia Korp of Gamlakarleby, Sweden (in Finnish: Kokkola), Three of their daughters emigrated to America: Maria Mathilda in 1876 with her husband, Elias Adolf, and son, Adolf Emil; Fredrika in 1877; and finally, Johanna in 1881 with her daughter, Aleksandra Johanna Mattson, age 5. "It is said that Alex Rauma Matson (Fredrika's husband) and Adolph Andersson (Maria Mathilda's husband) sponsored the passage for Johanna and Aleksandra Mattson to come to America. Adolph, Mathilda and Emil Andersson and Johanna and her daughter, Aleksandra all traveled together in 1880 arriving first in New York then later making their way to Astoria." [family notes]
