The Turkey YearsEd and Bessie Wilson began selling vegetables and poultry at the Farmer's Market in the 1920's. After Bessie "retired" from selling produce at the Farmer's Market in 1945, Howard and Ellen took it over. They sold turkeys, chickens and eggs until the early 60's when Ellen started her teaching career. The Farmer's Market was in Portland, Oregon. Our selling booth (called a "stall" at the time) was on the corner of 4th & Yamhill next to the Repetto's vegetable stand and across the street from Manning's Cafe. Howard sold the last Angus bull in 1973 and phased out the beef business after his dad was no longer able to help with the farm tasks. Bessie died in 1963; Howard's dad, Ed Wilson, died in 1973.
